How much does it cost to do an orchestra arrangement of a song? I'm in love with Howl's Moving Castle's theme, but the problem is, despite me having looked for quite awhile (2 years), I cannot find an orchestral arrangement for it. I want to play this song in my orchestra next year, but, I feel like I'm going to have to commission an orchestra arrangement. I've hardly seen violin ones (Maybe once or twice but I don't remember) but none for bass or cello, or viola.

How hard is it to make it in a major symphony orchestra? Please don't respond unless you are deeply involved in music. If you graduate from a decent music school, then what are your chances of making it in a symphony orchestra. Let me give an example. I live in Oklahoma, and I believe the best music school in our state in the Wanda school of music. If you graduate from a school of that caliber, then what are the chances of getting to play with an orchestra of the caliber of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic?
How do I calm my nerves for an orchestra audition? I am going to try out for a local orchestra soon. I am a good violin player, but when it comes to audition time, I get extremely nervous. I usually freeze up, my knees buckle, and my whole body shakes. Any ideas on how to calm my nerves?
What is the purpose of a conductor in an orchestra? I was watching orchestra this evening and noticed that, although the conductor was really giving a performance, none of the musicians were watching him. They were all looking at their sheet music. Is the conductor just for show?
What is the best way to prepare before an Orchestra Concert? Tommorow--yes, the 15th of December--I will be performing with my school orchestra. Trouble is, I'm having trouble with two measures. What's the best way to practice? It's a rather moderate piece, but it has crossing strings and slurs and when I attempt it--it doesn't sound very nice.
Why is the orchestra always overlooked? i am in the orchestra at my high school and it is always about the band. the band gets to go on trips, play at special events and if you are in the band everyone knows you. Our orchestra is just as big as the band but we dont get to do anything!

What instrument do you think I should try to learn for orchestra? I am not trying to make it this year or anything. I am willing to work at it. I have a little backround in guitar and flute but flute wasn't my favorite.
How much experience is needed to join a high-school level orchestra? I am going to start high school in the fall this year and I am very excited. The orchestra at my school, from what I hear, is not that old, fairly new. So it might be looking for anybody. But how many years of experience would you need on an instrument to join on average? I know some instruments probably require more than others, so please try to list as many as you can. Thank you.

Will joining band or orchestra increase my chances of getting into a good college? I'm a freshmen in high school and I'm really hoping to get into a UC (prefferably UCB). I'm pretty aware of what classes I have to take, but I didn't take Orchestra this year. In fact, I didn't take any performing/visual arts elective this year (very stupid). I have 3 years experience with the violin, although I'm pretty mediocre due to lack of practice. I was in the Orchestra in middle school, and I didn't enjoy it very much. I'm thinking about joining it sophomore year, but is it neccesary? Should I just take art classes instead? I know if I practice, I could improve with the right motivation, but as much as I want to get into a good college, I want to have a good time on the way. Another problem is that I like playing the violin, however I would like to try new instruments as well. I'm wondering if violin is truly the instrument for me. My friend who once played the violin learned the flute last year and now he's in the marching band! Should I try a new instrument?

Is it appropriate for a public high school orchestra in America to perfrom the Israeli National Anthem? My public high school orchestra which is located in the United States is scheduled to perform 'Hatikvah', the national anthem of Israel, at a large, public performance in New York City. Do you feel that this is an appropriate performance piece? Consider the controversial political and religious implications of the piece and the performing group. Thanks for your feedback. For reference, here are the lyrics to this piece: As long as deep in the heart, The soul of a Jew yearns, And forward to the East To Zion, an eye looks Our hope will not be lost, The hope of two thousand years, To be a free nation in our land, The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
