Classical Music Knowledge Base
Classical music? I really enjoy classical music although my knowledge of it is somewhat limited. I like sombre pieces, relaxing and nothing too lively! I like Chopin but hope someone could maybe give me some other recommendations. Thank you so much to everyone for all your great suggestions (wish I could give you all 10 points!) I intend to listen to all of them...although as I'm writing exams at the moment it has not been possible to do so yet.
Is classical music relevant to the rock music we listen to today? I want to apply for the Arts Concentration program at my school for music, which puts a lot of emphasis on the classical genre. I was just wondering, how relevant is classical music to rock, alternative, hard rock, and metal? I know the rules of music should apply to all genres, but will I be able to apply what I learn about classical music to the rock music I hope to compose in the future? Just wondering. Thanks!
What are the effects of classical music on an infant? Does it make the infants smarter and talented than those who were not exposed to the music? Does it affect a person's way of thinking? Does it affect an infant's personality? What are the effects of classical music to infants? What are some performed studies about classical music?
What is a good classical music piece that expresses beauty in simple things, and is optimistic"? I am making a slide show of nature photographs set to classical music for a class. I am looking for a classical music piece that expresses the beauty in simple thing, is optimistic (maybe in a major key), and possibly changes to a minor key at the end (the changing of seasons). I will have to write a paper on why I chose the piece and was hoping I could find something that went along with the changes of seasons, and could relate to the simple beauty of the scenery in my photographs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
How to find classical music for specific combinations of instruments? Is there a website that allows you to search for pieces of classical chamber music which use specific combinations of instruments? Note that all I need is the name of the piece and the composer. For example, you might type in "oboe, violin, viola, cello" and get "Mozart: Oboe Quartet In F Major, K. 370" as a response. Thanks!

What does it mean when an 8 year old hears classical music in his head, and can improvise? When I was a child, I could hear classical music in my head. I could improvise. I heard violins, cello, piano etc. I could hear complete pieces. Compositions. I was not born into a home with enthusiastic fans of classical music. In fact, hearing classical music in my home was extremely rare. At the time, it was a nuisance, and it disturbed my sleep. I am still able to think about classical music, and improvise, but the music has stopped playing by itself, in my head.
What do you consider the best piece of classical music? What do you consider the best piece of CLASSICAL music (such as Beethoven, Chopin, etc) that is not extremely hard to play, and fun? Such as one that works with octaves. I'm genuinely interested in what society considers "a beautiful piece of classical music".
What are some classical composers that a fan of rock music would like? Currently I listen to a lot of Christian rock music (Skillet, Kutless, Sanctus Real, etc.), but I want to get a little "sophisticated" and listen to some classical music. I want to garner a little more knowledge about music theory. If you could give me some names of composers that rock music fans usually like, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
What is the best music software to create classical music genre? Hey, I have been using FL since a long time. But, the samples quality is not that good, and it may be good for modern music styles. However, you always feel no matter how much you try it is very electrical. But i need a similar software with high quality samples to create CLASSICAL-like music, similar to the sounds produced by an orchestra. Can you advice me on that? Tx.
What type of classical/piano music would you recommend? I love the sound of the piano, and was just wondering what type of piano pieces or classical music would be great for listening. An idea of what I like so far is something like Fur Elise or Moonlight Sonata by Beethovan and something modern like River Flows in you by Yiruma. I really dont care for the sound of an orchestra in the background. But i wouldn't mind like a violin in the background. Thanks!
Hello, I am going to study classical music at UK then I want to get citizenship. What do you suggest? I am 21 Egyptian male. I will finish my information technology and computing BSC before I go to the UK to study classical music. I knew that it's hard to get a leave for working there after I finish my studies. So, I guess it would be even harder to go through naturalisation and citizenship processes. But I think it is not impossible! I know about the language, sound mind and periods outside of the UK requirements. And I know that I have to stay there for 5 years before I apply for the naturalisation programme. But do my three years of study count towards the 5 years or what? If they don't count, how can I stay for 5 years? Anyone can help? Thanks in advance.
City is using Classical Music to get rid of gangs at bus stops, what kind of music can get rid of terrorists? What kind of MUSIC can we play in Iraq so that is scares off the terrorists? (wouldn't that be GREAT) http://www.local6.com/spotlight/13783868/detail.html Transit workers are installing speakers this week to pump classical music from Seattle's KING-FM into the Tacoma Mall Transit Center. The tactic is designed to disperse young criminals who make drug deals at the bus stop or use public transportation to circulate between the mall and other trouble-prone places. Any particular SONG?
Does listening to classical music while driving keep you awake better? I think I remember hearing in a psychology class that if you're feeling drowsy while driving, you should listen to classical music because it stimulates the brain more than regular pop music, and therefore keeps you awake better. However, I can't find anything on it by Googling, so I'm wondering if I misremembered. Other than your personal opinions (e.g., "Classcal muzic is soooo boring lol"), is there any scientific evidence that classical music is better or worse than other music at keeping you awake?

Can someone give me a source for classical music with notable drum sections? I'm teaching a group of children who have discovered the wonder of drums and wanted to provide them with a wealth of music that includes drums from kettles to bass to tympany etc. We've already been listening to some world music with different drum expressions but I'd like some classical to add to the mix. Help?
What is the classical music in Audi R8 commercial? Its from a TV commercial shown in Canada, but its also on the website here: http://www.audi.ca/audi/ca/en2/new_cars/Audi_R8.html It's the first video with a classical piano music track. I know I've seen a video on Youtube of a man playing the song from many years ago(maybe 1930-1950?), its in black and white, but I don't remember his name, or the song title.
Websites to listen the most original classical music? I want a website that can let me listen to the most original classical music and know the album because nowadays they twist the song into pop, or make them faster, and include some modern instrument that should not be there. I just want to listen the original one, and not those modified ones.
What is the most important contribution classical music can make to society? Through performing, music education and electronic media, the San Francisco Symphony and I strive to make classical music accessible to all. How has classical music impacted your life? Through performing, music education and electronic media, the San Francisco Symphony and I strive to make classical music accessible to all. How has classical music impacted your life? As Rosie_D says so eloquently, music can be transformative. The power of classical music, and the emotions it allows us to express, speaks to all of us in a personal and direct way. Through the emotions it taps, music can make us more aware of our selves and of others. That really is one of its great contributions to society. Can classical music really stimulate brain neurons? I have heard many times from different people that if a child listens to classical music on a daily basis, they will be more mathmatical gifted at an older age due to brain stimulation. When asked why, I was told that all classical music has a certain mathmatical rythym to it. Do you know if this is true?
In classical music, what do these letters and numbers stand for? I've been listening to classical music a lot lately, and I was just wondering, for example.. Mozart's Piano Sonata in C major, K. 330; what does the K. 330 mean? And also, sometimes I see op. an example of this being, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64. Thanks for your help. :)
Can someone tell me who did the classical music score for the Gyrus Coleco Video Game in the 80s? There was a game along with Vanguard and a few others that had really catchy music. Gyrus used a Classical Music score by a famous composer. I have looked through Google and although there is always mention of the snappy music that everyone recognized, no one seems to be sure who composed it or the title of it. I am hoping someone in their 30s or 40s may have played (or still does) it and can help me find who composed the music score used for the game. Thanks for any help. Any other cool 80s game music composers would be welcome as well.
