What is the between a symphony orchestra and a philharmonic orchestra?
Every major city has an orchestra, but some are philharmonic and some are called symphony orchestras. For example, the New York Philharmonic, the LA Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony Orchestra

- They're one in the same.
- None, just the name.
- Symphony Orchestra is the generic term. Some call themselves "Philharmonic" but they are also symphony orchestras. There are other names also, such as "symphonietta" (sometimes a smaller orchestra).
- Just the name. Nothing more. PS: And there is the Philadelphia Orchestra. They use neither "symphony "or " philharmonic." in thier name.
